The Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L is one on my wishlist so I'd go for that personally if I ever get the cash and go full frame.

However out of the two lenses you've narrowed it down to I'd go for the tamaron for the f2.8, especially if you want the option of using it for your equine stuff
