Honestly, for an amateur on a budget who believes in paying for his software, PSE is the better choice all around. It's major drawback is when using RAW files. Then LR is preferable but like Tim said, eventually you'll need PSE for editing.

I use LR and have PSE and PRE for editing and video.

Yes I have used both. I am not saying anything bad about PSE, PS, Corel, GIMP, ect.... Also, I am not saying LR is superior. I am saying that it is incorrect to say LR is not useful for Jpegs. It is just as useful for jpeg as it is for raw. My advice to the OP is You can download a trial version of any program. Download them all and see which he/she likes best. If the Op is trying to decided between PSE and LR there is already a debate here.

If you want to invest in filters get all 77mm's or whatever is the biggest filter diameter of all your dream lenses. Then buy step-down rings to fit the lenses you have now. It'll save you money from re-buying filters every time you get a new lens.

Or you can just get Lee's filter system and not have to buy new filters, only lens adapter. Which..cost...like...more..than..most..filters...yeah......

This is what I was thinking, I'd prefer to only spend my money once and get higher quality filters, than keep rebuying mediocre ones.

One system I was looking into were the Cokin rectangular ones, where all you need is an adapter for your filter size.

As for software, I think I'm going to download the free trials of all 3 and see which one I like best.
