Where is it? I went up and down the list of sections and have no idea where I should even ask this question.

Yes, I tried to answer a post and was told I was not allowed. Then I had no idea where to ask about it. Most probably no big deal, just need some directions, but weird.

So, where are the rules?

I think the rules are displayed when you sign up. I haven't looked at them recently myself. Maybe I should.

Anyway, browse the forums by topic heading, and if there is one that you wish to see or post a thread, you may do so.

The beginner forum is not for photos, photos should be posted in the appropriate forum or the General Gallery, and off topic chat is just that; a kind of catch-all that is not about photography.

Watch out for NSFW photos, and if you wish to post and view, there is a (contributing) members-only forum for that.

Far as I'm aware you should be able to post in all sections. The only thing you might have tried was replying to a thread which:

1) Was locked, however you shouldn't be able to start replying to it in the first place. However it might be that it was locked whilst you were writing your reply

2) Spam, again you might have started replying and then the content was removed by a mod and thus when you went to post it was no longer in an area you were allowed to post to.


Otherwise you should be able to post in all the sections you can see (though if I recall right you can't post a new thread in the news and announcements section; but you can reply to them as normal).

The only "hidden" section for members is the subscribers section and NSFW [Not Safe for Work] gallery but you shouldn't be able to see those if you're not a subscribed member.




On the subject of NSFW content we generally say that we accept a level of "skin showing" that you'd see on a typical (not nudist) beach. You can link, but not embed, nude content into posts, but if you want to embed then you should use the NSFW gallery (for which you must be a subscribed member).
For the aid of those members surfing at work we generally expect, that any "risky" posts have NSFW in the title. IF in doubt put it in or ask a mod and we'll be happy to advise.
