As the title says, new toy. Really digging the f/1.4 but I'm going to have to practice practice!
Some cut flowers from our planters. Enjoy.

These look fifty-millimeterish indeed! I like the last shot the most. Although, the pure simplicity and rich, saturated colors of shot #1 are a close, close second! I myself think the Canon 50mm 1.4 EF has lovely background defocus, and for a 50mm lens, it's probably got the most-pleasing bokeh of any 50mm lens that's widely available for d-slr use.

Thanks! That first shot was not retouched other than a simple crop and straighten. The purple on those flowers is intense!

Much prefer #4.. the OOF areas on the rest are not my cup of tea! Nice color on #4... and even a bit more DOF would have nailed it.

Thanks cgip! Since it's my first shots with the f/1.4 I thought I'd do some experimentation with the very shallow DOF. Thanks for your comments.

Understood! I actually like soft focus / shallow DOF when done a certain way. Usually you need a subject that is enhanced by it... not one that looks odd when part of it is OOF, and part is Sharp. Look at Mishele's work with her flowers (she is on the extreme end with a lot of her shots.. but she does have stuff that will illustrate my point). Of course, this is all IMO! Just trying to give you a nudge in the "right" direction! ;)
