new monitor

so it is time to get a new monitor. Daul screen is not an option (i love it but not going to happen). So what is a good monitor for photography work? I'm looking to spend around the 300$ mark and looking for like a 20". I'm really interested in this dell 22"

So Dell Trulife which produces a high contrast ratio, and then they quote a number like 2000:1. And they say it's a "HD" screen but then the resolution isn't HD...

I don't know personally I don't like these cheap LCDs for editing photos, and I'm horribly biased against them.

That'll do, if that is all you are going to spend...it's not too bad, we've got a couple of them at work.

I suggest anything widescreen. I have a 19 inch widescreen from ENVISION that was $180 but the only problem is that it only suppoerts up to 1440 by 900 resolution.

Yeah, I do prefer to edit on a CRT (I also prefer to game on one) but I like an LCD for browsing the web and such. Best idea (or what I like to do) is to set up dualies with one CRT and one LCD.

My local parts wholesaler just got there last shipment of CRT monitors. This is a high volume wholesaler and there say CRT's are just too big, heavy, and power hungry so they don't sell. Volume has dropped to almost zero in the last 18 months and the importers are not shipping in any quantity. So, if you prefer them to LCD, go buy a new one spare now while you can.

Mike, I just ditched 2 hulking CRT monitors in favor of 2 of those 22" Dell monitors that you linked to. I'm very happy with them. I have them calibrated with a Pantone Huey, and so far my results have been great.

There are about 5 different companies that manufacture LCD panels so the brand isn't that important as far as that goes. The electronics are also produced by other manufactures and shared by the monitor makers. The difference is in the model of parts put into the different monitors by the 'brands'. I say this to point out that an off brand with the same specs is very likely as good as a Name brand with the same specs.

The best ones have the highest native resolution and contrast values.

Also, the best panels out there right now are the 22 inch ones. I didn't count the 30 inch monsters as they are a different beast altogether! (I'd love to have one though)

I have a 22" Samsung that is amazing. Says a 3000:1 contrast ratio and such. I have it color corrected and love it!

it will give nice picture.i really love it
