Damn, that $1299 price tag is disappointing. At $500-$600 I'd jump on this one (after reading some real-world reviews, of course).

I wouldn't buy it for that price.... Oem Nikon will run a couple hundred more.

Well, the Nikon is $1900, that's quite a difference. Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Autofocus Lens (Black) 2164

And neither of those have VR/IS.

I've seen some used from online stores and local CL. I should have included that in my post. Lol but new prices is a big difference. I would like to see samples though. Should be interesting.

You right, if the performance is near/equal to the nikon/canon one which is going to be hard to beat, it could be a big seller.

Maybe, maybe not. This seems to fit the same pattern that has been in place for years and years. Canon & Nikon have great pro-level lenses and they are very expensive. Sigma, Tamron etc. make a lens that is very similar (range, max aperture etc.) and they price it at 50-60% of what the Canon/Nikon cost.

I've often told people that by going with a top level Sigma/Tamron, you can typically get 80-90% of the quality, for half the price. But there are still those who need (want) that last 10-20% of quality, and they are willing to pay for it. Which is why the Canon & Nikon lenses still sell very well.
