New to this whole photography thinggg :)

Ok!! Hello&nbsp;everyone. My name is Kimmie I live on the east coast, around the mid atlantic. I have a Nikon Coolpix. I know its not the best camera but from what I've seen, it takes pretty awesome pictures for what I need it for (nothing professional, but good pics). I have Corel paint shop pro 4x. Ive read the book and messed around with it a bit but I'm having a hard time getting my pictures to appear as they are described in the book. And Corel users?? I'm looking for advice for someone using my type of camera and using the same type of software. Any tips and tricks on how to get the most out of my camera and software?? <br><br>Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard.
The first thing you probably want to learn are some basic art composition principals - golden mean, frames, diagonals, leading lines - there are a few, and they are really simple to understand. Although your camera may not allow you to change the settings for exposure, having an understanding of the basics will help you when you decide to get a dSLR (yes, you will want one.) Lastly, but just as important, is to shoot and have fun.

Where in DE are you? My youngest son is in college in Wilmington.

He's up at UD?? I'm down in sussex county. Im about an hour 15 away from him. Is there a post on here about understanding these principals?? My issue is I see something that I feel would be an amazing picture, try to shoot it and it never turns out like I want it to look. I try to edit it up abit and it still they don't look quite right. Prime example. I took an great picture of my niece. There was a little bit of a shadow on her face so I tried to brighten the picture a bit and she came out very washed out. I tried for less and it just went from too sharp and too bright to shadowed. I would love to get a dSLR. I had a nicer nikon. It was an L100 i think. I LOVED it. Took amazing pictures. Easy to use. pictures required little editing. But it was stolen.
