Newbies Pictures

I've been shooting with my DSLR for about 6 months now and these are some of my favorite shots. The first one was actually taken by a friend, and he's okay with me putting it up. I also have this posted in General, but I think it's a little more appropriate here.

the first one is out of focus
I wish the car wasn't right behind the skateboarder but it is a good action shot.

I think he was trying to get just the finger tip in focus, and the rest out. I wish there was a shadow by it so you could see it was in focus but alas, there is not.

#2 Too dark, and the carpet texture is more interesting to look at than the actual rose.

#3 I like how the sparkles mimic the blades of grass, and I like the depth of field, but the composition is weak.

#4 The car ruins everything. I think it'd be better if he were wearing a black t-shirt to contrast with the sky better. Otherwise this pic has things that I do like... shadows, arms, limbs, etc...

okay I do see that the fingertip is in focus but then i guess I dont understand what the purpose of the photo is.
