I was modeling a hat my mother had made

#1 IMHO the wooly hat dominates this image of an otherwise cute baby. If you like wooly hats on babies (some people love them) then I'd up the blacks in levels just a tad.

#2 Cute baby with a great expression (I can even live with the hat) and the lighting is good - but the matted grey/black hairy rug doesn't work at all and ruins the shot for me.

Having said that, I don't do babies and wouldn't know where to start so take my C&C with a grain of salt.

I don't mind the wool attire so much as the flattened Yak, it is not helping your shot.

If it is the wool that you want to stand out try a background that will not draw the attention away from that and your subject.

OK, that puts a completely different slant on the images. When people show pics of babies one tends to assume the baby is the subject unless told otherwise. Could you mention that kind of thing in the future? :salute:

#2 is still spoiled by the dark, hairy rug. I'd suggest white if you want to use a rug and maybe brush the part that will be in the shot so it's nice and fluffy.

Cute expression in the #2 photo. But, I don't care for the rug either. I tried my hand at newborn photos last month and not easy especially since the baby was crying for 3 hours. Your little one looks peaceful and again I liked the expression.

You might be able to save this shot by changing the black color for something else.

It's a blanket no rug lol.

Yes newborns are very hard to photograph.

Nobody has a certain posing for newborns. I posed the first and let the second go natural... Most mamas I've talked to didn't want their baby in the frog position or the hands under the chin cause its unnatural.
