Comments? I'm still working on studio lighting. I like the shadows, but I would prefer to have the shadows a LOT softer.. Would I just turn down the power on my speedlite to accomplish that? Move the light away from my subject? Angle my light differently?

As far as lighting, I think there's something odd (not sure how you could fix it) about the hat...either the threads in the white yarn are shiny or something because it seems to have a glow around the hat, but the baby's face (or maybe just the lips) is too dark.

I, personally, don't like the props used in this. The hat seems very Holiday or elf-like, the cup is very Spring/Summer and the warm wood tone of the floor just throws it off. Maybe if the hat were brighter colors, it wouldn't be so bad. I also don't like the fade-in from the edges of the picture. I know you only asked about the lighting, but I thought I'd give my opinion.

I agree about the props, hard to distinguish what type of holiday or season its representing. using something neutral would make it appropriate all year long ;D
and I think reflecting the light back from the other side to fill in some of those shadows would be a good idea

using a reflector would be best or a white wall if it's handy!

Re-edit. I see what you mean about the clashing of the props. The lady who makes the hats wanted a picture or two that she could use on her page to advertise her work.

The halo on the hat is a little puzzleing. It does not appear that way on my computer when I'm in PS. :\ IDK why it is showing up here.

Anyway, I re-edited to lighten the shadows around the mouth and neutralize the cup by taking away the graphics (quick edit, I know its not perfect) and I lightened the front corners of the picture as well. Better?
