Desaturating is the worst way to get to a B&W image.
BW conversions are a skill to be acquired and the final result depends on the software you use.
Note the histogram shows that the buildings/tracks block has a relatively low contrast range. This are is rather dull because all of the colors have relatively similar tones.
Thus in converting to BW you need to be able to manage the colors separately.
