Nicole's Shoot (First shoot with the 6D)

Hey guys and gals,

Well yesterday I had my first shoot with the 6D. I had done a number previously with the 600D, but man was it a change with the new ISO flexibility I had. One thing I learned however, is that I will need to pick up some ND filters. Overall, it was a great fun afternoon shoot.

Anyways, its finals week here in Davis, so I'll be posting images as I'm editing them sporadically for study breaks. Scroll down for new images. If you would like to, please leave some CC. I'm doing my best to improve my portraiture vs my usual comfort zone of Macro. I would already say most of the images are an improvement over my previous work, but I want your opinions. The entire shoot was done on my 70-200 f/4 IS.

OK, right off the top, I have to say that your model is drop dead beautiful. So we can ignore that from now on.
All the technical stuff seems just terrific.
If that is fill flash on the second, it is very well done, I think.

On the first, I think there is no reason for her to be off to one side, this would work well with her centered.
I wish she was a bit higher in the grass because the viewer sees lots of forehead and only a bit of eyes and face.

On second, it seems to be a little awkward to have her legs in fine focus and yet chop them off.
And that tiny bit of red in the corner of her eye is too obvious

Those nits aside, I think this is very nicely done.

Thanks for the great critique I hope to do another shoot with her soon. She is actually a photographer as well, so it was really great getting to develop some of the shots in parallel.

Definitely see what your saying on the first one. We did a number of grass shots, so I'll see if I can post one up sometime once its edited that is a bit more in line with your suggestion. The second one will probably get a bit more attention in post before being sent off. I was unsure about the leg cutting off as well. I did a few with her feet, but just wasn't feeling the framing as more distracting branches were finding their way into the shot. The redness will get corrected, thanks for pointing it out! Most all of these have only been cropped or slightly sharpened before posting, so they will get a second touch up in time.

Fill flash was used on the first and second First was camera right, second was camera right, above and slightly to the right of the model (shooting downwards).

The 1st pic in the 2nd set is great. Kinda reminds me of the pictures that come in a frame when you buy them. Haha. Great photos.

The first and the third are great shots. The way you used the DOF really made an impact here. Very soft and welcoming. I wish you would have kept with the same concept for the second shot. The second and fourth shots are just not very pleasant. (posing wise) You should never pose someone in a dress crotch forward.

I'm with this guy. If I were buying just one picture it would be the one titled "Spring". <--Probably a pretty good size canvas...Yea i look through the others and head straight to that one.
"Summer Fun" she need to cross her legs the opposite way.
"Classic" isnt too bad
