I agree with Dan. Bribrius, did you shoot these at a high ISO and then crop to a large magnification?

not a cellphone. d7100 and no cropping other than what is cropped on 2 compared to 1. soft focus shot that looked like a painting. I took this letting the iso float for this one and rolled the dice. I saw this sooc and figured I had the opportunity to pull it off bringing up the light in post. But no, I didn't want this crisp or clear at all just the figment of lines and people not clear or detailed.. geez guys I didn't think I missed by that much guess I did. A version of this with more color added is actually my desktop background is it really THAT bad?

I have other pov's and photos of this church. wasn't really the point. But yeah, appreciate the feedback. I kind of liked this one actually. Look up the hill it leads to people. the fence leads to the people. the people are place almost in front of the base of the church. look up the church it goes to the sky. I didn't much like the tree, but in a way it accentuates it maybe.

I didn't make the cellphone comment.

But yes, it really is that bad.

The composition is forced and just doesn't work. You're too far away from the subjects so they are lost. The subjects are nearly dead-center in the frame. The technical execution is pretty bad. There are tons of elements in the frame that have nothing to do with the image, including nearly half of the image being taken up by a grassy hill. You've also attempted to take a night shot, which is a Pandora's box of complexity unto itself, without having a real firm grasp on how to take the same picture during the day. You've honestly done nearly everything wrong that I can think of.

Bribus, you need to take a step back and stop spending so much of your effort posting this high-level questions that have nothing to do about what YOU need to learn. Every single image I've seen from you has been pretty terrible, and I don't see any improvement.

You have the same problem I did when I started. This stuff is just not AT ALL in your DNA. You have to learn what good art is made from so that you can start creating your own. It's a tough ride and a harsh learning curve, but you can get there if you focus on the right things.

Go get some books on composition. Go study the artwork of great masters- and not just photography. Then get some books on technical elements of photography and study them. THEN go try this again.

lol. I have a tripod. if you could chip in and buy me a "artistic gene" it could help. I do fine in my box. I leave my box and start thinking "outside the box" I go in this unknown territory of artistic impressionalism or something. And usually end up lost in the woods over there...
I still have the 3mp camera, just not really helping me out. seems everything comes out with a bluish tint, which I can deal with. But the noise levels are horrendous and with so low mp im kind of getting negative on it because Im going to have trouble sending anything for a print. so Im kind of thinking that was a futile idea now.

what is scary here. Is I already have. And been to many art galleries. looked online at what they show at art museums. been through photography once. started going through a course book a while back one step at a time again, read. Taking one section at a time. Most elements you cant reasonably accommodate in the frame. I got stuck on that for a while because of the push for proper composition. Hardly ever to they all come together. And when they do, it is often of a subject you don't want a photo of anyway so the elements are there but the interest is not. Least not to me. so rather than stressing myself out looking for composition elements for the perfect photo of something I don't like I stopped worrying about it.

it really isn't coming together for me in that sense. Quite honestly, most of it doesn't mean a damn thing to me. But I have a bigger issue. taste. what other people generally like, I often don't. what I don't like, they often do. Even as rudimentary as my facebook page. I get likes on photos I took and I don't even like the photos im getting likes on. Other photos people don't like, I like them. I go in a gallery or something. see people staring at a photograph or painting. I cant figure out why I think that one sucks.
Even my own wife, creative person she is, I take a certain photo, she tells me she likes it. I hate it. I cant figure out why she likes it. usually I take a photo, or post a photo, I haven't a clue what others will think of it. I know what I think of it, but what others think is good, or bad, it is a total roll of the dice for me. I relate zero. I look through art books or examples of composition and half the stuff I don't even like.
