Nikkor 12-24 f/4 comments

I need a wide lens for my D1x for some interior shots and I know my 20mm isn't going to cut it. Anybody bought and had time to use the Nikkor 12-24 f/4 lens? I've had a couple of Nikkor lenses that weren't worth what I paid (28-85 for one) and I'm not interested in dumping a grand for another lens before getting some imput.

Eventually I plan on purchasing the 10.5mm DX fisheye. On the D1X it's a 16mm lens, the fisheye can be corrected if you shoot in RAW, making it a fisheye and a just plain wide-angle.

It also focuses to a mere 1.2 inches from the front of the lens, perfect for macro.

You can get it new for around 600 bucks.
