Nikkor 35mm 1.8G & 50mm 1.8G vs. 18-55 3.5-5.6 LENS COMPARISONS

Nice comparison. I have the 50 mm 1.8 from my old n80 that I manually focus on my 5100. Electronic range finder does a descent job, sharp as a tack.
 
The D3100 has the rangefinder manual focusing assist function too - Page 144 of the D3100 user's manual.
