nikon 50mm 1.8 lens?

LOL, then wish us both luck! lol I don't want to return this one, it takes great pics when focused! I just looked at the 1.4 and it's always at 1.4? BUMMER!! Why would they do this?

Can someone elaborte on this??? I was planning on getting this lens, but I was under the impression that is wasn't a 1.4 fixed aperture and that the D40 would be able to meter and adjust the aperture just fine.

If I'm limited to a manual focus AND a fixed aperture, I'll just as well shell out the extra coin on the AF-S lens. I can handle a manual focus, but not being locked to a single aperture.

Once you try a 50mm prime, you'll love the sharpness and quality. I found them excellent especially in manual focus. I tried a Canon 50mm 1.2. Brilliant lens.
