Nikon D80: no display when using remote shutter?

My father just bought a remote shutter for his Nikon D80, but even though the remote seems to work (focusing and taking pictures when pressing button), the camera doesn't show the photos at the display after taking them.

Actually, the display completely turns off, not even menus are accessible when the remote shutter is plugged in...

Is this a common D80 issue, or do you suppose the remote shutter is faulty?

Does anyone use a remote shutter on their D80 to confirm, that the D80 works completely as normal with this plugged in?
If it does, I guess the remote shutter must be the problem..
