Nikon D90/D7000?

I will try keep it short.


Im kinda begginer in dslr photography but I think that I have good knowledge about digital photography and technilogy.
I have considered many options and I ended up with two candidates D90 and D7000. Im pretty sure that I dont want antithing else (With Nikon body i can share some lenses with my friend, with autofocus screw i can use older glass, i dont like the orientation of D3100/D5100, i could go on but that is not the point why I started this topic.)

So I want to ask someone with experience, if I buy cheaper D90 will I lose some options in settings and fuctions of advanced body? I know that D7000 is superior in every way, but i dont need that, Im not a pro altrough Im pretty demanding, I just want to play with photography and pretty much explore every possibility that man can do with dslr.

So what I need to know is that if the D90 does the same things as D7000 only with lower perfomance? Or D7000 comes up with many new funcitions and gimmics? ps. I should mention that Im not interested in video at all.


I want to shoot mostly portait, glamour and play with light in nature (you know that look when you exposure your photos during/after sunset) Im planing to use mostly those nikon prime lenses (Nikon 35mm f/1.8 ; maybe 55mm) and when I find some crisp zoom lens that I can afford.

If you are going to USE the high ISO's go with the D7000.
I am not a fan of going with an older body if you can afford to buy the newer, up to date one. You admit you are going to be fairly demanding on it and I am guessing this isn't a stepping stone kind of camera for you. Buy the one you can demand the most out of and will give you the most options for the longest time.

It always seems that people make statements like yours saying they don't need it now, but then we see them trading that camera body in on a newer one within a year or so... That extra money spent and lost in that time could have been saved and spent on good lenses instead.

Well as much as I have money to buy more expensive D7000 I would certainly appreciate saving some, and I have to say my only experience with photography is with my 8 years old compact :-/ But I know little bit science behind dsrl (you can say Im little bit a nerd about it )

Im pretty sure that Im not going to use highs ISO, and Im not going to shoot fast action for sure.

How about renting or finding a camera club to check out the two together? The D90 is falling off Nikon's new lineup. The sensor in the D5100 is a reason to consider it over the D90 even if you REALLY want to save $.

IMHO the D90 won't be around much longer. Go with the D7000

People have been saying that since the D7000 was launched back on Sept 15, 2010.

Since the D90 is Nikon best selling camera ever, I suspect they will ride the D90 wave all the way to the beach.

The D90 was the first DSLR to also have video. The D7000 video is tons better.

It's weird....the Nikon D40 was Nikon's best-selling camera model, bar none...then the D90 apparently surpassed the D40 as the best-seller of all-time...perhaps the D7000 will become the new all-time best-selling Nikon...

The types of photography you listed are not particularly demanding on the camera as machine...either camera ought to do well for you.

I shoot D90 and the only thing that I would care to upgrade is the number or AF points, and the AF module.

Well, if you know you won't want to upgrade then go with the D90 but if you think that there's a chance you'll want to upgrade, then the D7000 is your best bet...
The High iso is very nice I find...I ended up using it more often then I thought.

I have the older D80 (not D90) and a D7000. For what I do, results are just as good when I shoot with my D80 or my D7000. Both are great cameras, and I'd imagine the D90 will serve you just as well as the D7000.
