Nikon D90 zoom lens

Hi im thinking of getting a zoom lens for my D90 and not sure what one to get. I dont mind second hand (better value for money) or new ive been walking and seen things that my 18-105mm lens cant get. I saw some deer the other day that where just to far out of range for my lens and also a wood pecker up in a tree and a coyote. I have $600-700 for the lens and im thinking 200 or 300mm thank you for any help.

Since you already have a good all-purpose zoom. You may want to opt for a telephoto prime. You'll get much better quality then a zoom.

You can buy this lens used (ebay is a good/safe source) in mint condition for around $500-600:

If you really want a zoom, I'd highly recommend a nikon 80-200 f2.8 AF-D, the single-ring version can be had used in mint condition for around $450-500, this lens has image quality on-par with nikon's latest 70-200mm f2.8 VRII (a $2000 lens).

Of course both of these pro-quality options are heavy, and on the high end of your price range. If you just want something light, cheap and effective, look into a 70-300mm f4-5.6 AF ED--they sell for less then $100 on ebay:
