I recently purchased a Nikon FE. I chose the FE because of the large resource of lenses available, the non-AI, AI, and AIS. I have read that when using a non-AI lens the FE uses stop-down metering. I understand this to mean that once I set my aperture it is that light coming through the lens that is read. Is this correct, and is there a difference on how the FE would meter light using an AI lens or does it use stop-down metering regardless of the type of lens used?

The FE does not couple with the aperture ring on non-AI glass to tell the metering system where you set the aperture. You need to set the aperture and push DOF preview to stop down the lens to it's aperture setting and set exposure. Then release DOF preview and compose/shoot the frame. This is the only wat to tell the meter how much light is available to properly expose the film

BTW, welcome to the forum, I just noticed that was your first post. Don't be a stranger.
