Nikon Speedlight SB-700 Help Please

I own a Nikon D850 and a Nikon Speedlight SB-700.
My problem is when I use my flash off the camera my flash want work in TTL "only works when it is turned onto manual mode"
I'm using a Neewer CT-16 wireless speedlight trigger
Is this normal or is there something wrong. PS: When flash is on the camera TTL works fine.
