It's also a little too busy with the plane, chairs, lights, buildings, and everything else. Perhaps a tighter frame that just includes the fire pit and the tent would be a more concise story? I like that fire pit.

Normally I'm pretty receptive to criticism, and thank you for your input. But all the above was kind of the point of the photograph.... I can take a photo of a fire pit and a tent pretty much anywhere.

Now could I have done a better job arranging everything? Yes, but I really didn't feel like pushing the plane around and moving my tent off the only not lumpy spot!

But in your next paragraph, your words give me the impression that you left everything in its place out of convenience; that is, you would have changed the composition if you could easily have done so. So, I'm left unsure how to interpret this image with apparently conflicting theses.

I like the fire, the tree (those red leaves from the light of the fire are great) and the plane....I hate the chair! I think if you use the clone tool on that chair you'll find it's a whole new image

I think you're trying too hard. There really isn't much to interpret. It was just meant to be a fun image. One you take at face value, or leave it.

I think the fire pit need to be have the exposure reduced. You obviously lightened the overall exposure here.. and that caused the brightest, largest light source (the fire) to become way overexposed.... it just doesn't look real. The chair doesn't really bother me, it adds context. The angle the tent was shot at almost make it hard to identify, if you aren't familiar with tents, and the chair helps with that as it is easy to ID as a camp chair.

I dont understand some comments. This should go, that shouldnt be there, it would look better if.....well that didnt go, it should be there and it looks good as is. (My opinion). As you have said this was an unusual campsite and the plane looks good there. The only thing about the image is the overexposed highlights. And the chair should be there because I would think how uncomfortable with nothing to sit on. A pic should tell some kind of story if possible. Your original tells a nice one. Reminds me of a time I camped out beside a glider club when I had my first ride in a glider. Thanks.

i agree with bynx. all of the elements help to illustrate the unusual nature of the situation. i just think the entire image is too bright. the long exposure doesn't do it for me here. you have nice runway lights, campfire light, and night sky. all that gets lost when bringing the exposure of the entire image up to daytime-like levels.

What's the problem, people? It's pretty clear what happened. The OP obviously landed his Cessna on the runway at Area 51, and came across the alien encampent (they still can't clear Homeland Security customs without the proper paperwork, and when you've been travelling for lightyears, it takes a while for the paperwork to catch up), and they are keeping themselves warm by having a radioactive tellurium source going. As for the tree - that's a species that is native to Krutana 5b and somehow has managed to root itself in this soil. The leaves are normally blue, but since it doesn't have the right nutrients, they're kinda orange.

Sheesh.

I think his comment about not wanting to push the plane out of the way was sarcasm. :mrgreen:
personally, I love the sudden change from simple campsite to airplane runway..and whats a runway without a plane? just a road.
maybe it IS a little busy...but anything less would have made this shot just another campfire or airplane shot.
