I thought about trying to get closer but I really think they mean it.

it would have made it easier if they used the runway closest to me.

ever seen a 12 volt do 500 m.p.h.?

I think I probably should have double checked that shutter speed......

Do NOT be afraid to drop down to slow, slow speeds when panning. The shot of the kid in the go kart is close to where it ought to be in order to convey the feeling of motion, of movement, of speed...most people tend to choose far too fast a shutter speed; live a little! Slow it down! Make the background get streeeeeeakkkky! Bluuuuuuuuuur the background out!

Thanks for the response derrel. I noticed it is the distance away and direction the object is going that im trying to get used to. I can pull it off, but sloppy. And im not at the point of planning shutter speed ahead for specific effects. hence the practice....
I've done the same sort of thing, in the passenger seat of cars going places (dumb as it sounds) just trying to get accustomed to moving objects speeds and how far away they are..

Well first I don't think I'd call panning from the car dumb, there is lots of fun to be had with it ;)

As Derrel said super high shutter speeds aren't necessary unless you have tons of light and your background is far away to provide a pleasing bokeh... and/or you are shooting little birds or ducks, they are both crazy fast lol.

When you use too high of a shutter speed on a slower moving object or an object far from you like the plane you have here it just looks like it's hanging there, no motion is conveyed in the picture and it ends up static. You will be surprised how low you can take the shutter speed and get a great panned shot ;)

Check this recent article out, and see some different "ways" to approach the rendering of movement. its-all-a-blur

thanks guys. And that is basically what im doing Ron and it is taking practice. looking at the article from derrel (shutter speed 1/6 1/10) this is what im trying to get used to. knowing the ss I want to be at. I shot the little car at 1/3. slow enough the car turned out blurry too...
but it is fun!!
