Nuthatch

Been stalking this guy for a few days at the suet feeder. They have a knack of coming when I dont have a camera and leaving as soon as I do. This morning there were two and I got the camera, gone. After waiting awhile I went out on the deck for the shot of the island and came back and there was the nuthatch again, raised the camera. Gone !!! OK Nuthatch 3 me 0, the war was on. Spent the next 40 minutes in the window with the camera and a coffee and finally got this shot. Shot through the window and it was dull and dark out but I was happy to just get the little tyrant. Love these guys.

I think your Grand father called it right.I have never seen a nuthatch in a up right position.always side ways,upside down head one way body another like the exorcist bird and they are flighty. Cute little buggers though.Nice Shot

My dad used to call them that too. I call them "Ack Ack" because to me thats what their call sounds like and they do love to chatter

They don't always hang upside down or sideways. Sometimes you can catch them standing upright.
