Oban, Scotland C&C

Hi all, I spent some time the other day traveling to the Mull of Kintyre to work on the Island for a day. So while waiting on the ferry I had a chance to snap a few pics. Here's my best one (I think) of Oban, which was the port we left from.

Settings were 20mm @ 1/400th sec, F8, ISO 100

If you have any C&C I'd love to hear it

Gray picture. I would have preferred just slightly more water at expense of sky and the horizon is just a touch off. Otherwise good job.

I'm inclined to agree with this ^^^. I'd rather see more of the reflections and less of the clouds. It is kind of difficult to critique a panoramic shot when it's displayed this small - the effect is usually different when it is seen larger.

I visited there a little over 20 years ago - beautiful place - looks like it's been built up a bit since I saw it.

Thanks Patrice. Ah yes, I remeber cracking a bottle of that open on my mate's 20th, it was a 1980 and very nice indeed though usually I prefer my Islay whiskys!

I too have a preference for 'peaty' malts. Depending on how I feel at the time of purchase my 'go to' malts are either Laphroaig or Bowmore. I discovered malts when I went to England for a work assignment and met my bride from the north who promptly showed me the error of my ways in drinking 'Rye and Ginder'.

Laphroaig is one of my go to whiskeys as well mate, not to eveyones taste but I like it. Caol Isla is another one of my favorites along the same lines with the 18yr old being particulary nice. It's not quite as well known as the others

Laphroaig is definitely an acquired taste. The seaweedy taste and smell isn't for everyone. I do love it, especially the 30 year old I got t taste. Bunnahabhain is a good introduction. The 1972 vintage I have is very different to the normal 12 y-o.

Back to the photo, you've cropped the photo from the original, or else its a pano. What did you crop away?

Yeah, it's cropped. The original had a wee bit of the peir I was standing on at the bottom rhs and a lot more water, there was also a modern power supply for a boat to dock. The peir was a bit underexposed and though I was able to adjust it in post I didn't feel they added anything to the image so I took cropped them out.

I've adjusted the horizon ever so slightly in this one and adjusted the crop to include as much of the reflections as I can while still cropping out the pier I was on. I've also bumped the size up too.

Any better?
