Even before you get the Understanding Exposure book, the Internet is a fabulous (and often free) resource. For example: Basic Photo Tips: Find basic & beginner photography tips, techniques & guides at photo.net has the basic information about exposure (shutter speed, ISO, and aperture).

Once you have a good grasp on the basics and you have that flash that others mentioned. The Strobist, is a fantastic place to learn how to use that flash!

I already started reading the understanding exposure but I will also check these out. Thanks
