off camera flash triggers

Pretty sure that I'm Going to be getting myself either the 430 or 580 depending on how funds go. As far as getting it off camera lets just say we are talking about the 430 I have been looking at the pocletwizard FlexTTL. I would need two of them. Is there an option that gives me the same functionality and usability in a cheaper way?

Okay, I obviously understand the difference between cheap eBay triggers and Pocketwizards. But what's the difference between these mid-priced triggers and Pocketwizards?

Never heard of those...hopefully they work well and drive down the market price.

Most photographers who shoot 'off camera flash' do it with simple trigger-only (no TTL) triggers. The Pocket Wizard Plus II is pretty much the industry standard, but there are many cheaper options. If you don't have a good understanding of manual exposure and manual flash control, simple triggers may have a bit of a learning curve, but once you know what you're doing, it's pretty simple and very reliable....which why so many photographers like it.

I would also like to know the answer to this question, as I am thinking about getting some triggers after Christmas - these look pretty good, but, as Nickzou has asked - how do they compare. Things like battery life (I know depends on how often you use them), how do they stand up to out door use, are they as well built as the Pocketwizards (e.g., FlexTT5), etc.

Actually, the learning curve for TTL flash is quite a bit more complex and difficult to learn than just using manual modes.

Plus, the camera and flash are just stupid machines that can only follow the software programming the camera makers software engineers wrote long before you decided to take that picture, so TTL is not as consistant as manually controlling the lighting.

Is keeping HSS off camera a pretty big deciding factor? I assume that it may be if you were looking at the PWs originally. But if it is not and cash is tight right now and you could also look into a YN 565 EX, which is almost a clone of the 580 EXII aside from the lack of HSS.

At under half the price of the 580 its definitely something to consider.
