Oh, the Anticipation! C+C

I took this pic of my son a couple weeks ago. He was on the run towards the playground, but then he stopped just short to take it all in before choosing which section to start with.

I thought it was a nice moment to capture. What do you think about the composition and it's elements?

I think composition is excellent.
I think that the photo can be improved by taking out much of the extraneous stuff and making him more prominent.

I cropped down to fill the screen with important stuff
Then darkened every thing but him.
Took out type (that draws people's eyes)
Warmed everything.
Lens blurred the background slightly and darkened the periphery.

So the result is, I think, that he is the prominent part of this and the viewer understands that the subject is looking at the stuff that fills his vision. (and ours)

thanks for your comment and edit, Lew. I like what you did. I started cropping like you did, but changed my mind because I really like the lead-in lines from the railings going towards the playground.
I do agree, I need to soften other colors besides the red, like you did.
