Interesting! I love the color saturation. I wish that white railing didn't cut into them so much, but overall still a really cool photo. Was this shot with a polarizing filter?

Yeah, the white railing is the main detractor for me, also.
Direct sun can be nasty, but I think it's rather appropriate here.

Yes, it was shot with a polarizer, and no, I wish the white rail wasn't there either. I thought about PSing it out, but then you'd have no sense of scale... unless karissa stood next to them and then we'd realize just how Big Shorty is.

Personally there is a bit too much going on. Maybe a tighter crop? You are definitely on the right track. Reshoots if at all possible are a beautiful thing.
