I love it when there is a mix of clouds and blue sky to make wide angle photos like this very dramatic. So fun!

Plus old Caddy's are cool.

Yeah...unfortunately it was a car show! I suppose you could spend countless hours at photoshop and removing all the distractions, but I'm into that.

Definitely not worth the work. You could have asked everybody to move for you.

Hahaha, I'll have to start bringing a mobile massive green screen with me!

But it is what it is. Car shows are not set up for photographers, they are for people to show off their rides and hang out. But I'm always trying to find a unique way to take photos of cars at shows, more and more I'm starting to focus on details rather than photographing the whole car unless it's in a nice location with either minimal background distractions or a interesting background.

Car shows are getting repetitive for me, since I'm at 1 or 2 every weekend because I we have a show car as well. So taking pictures kills the time, it's just something to do. A lot of times, I only come home with 10 photos on the camera or sometimes a 100! haha. But I noticed using a wide angle just looks snapshot-ish because there is so many distractions and just sometimes doesn't work. I'm thinking the next time, I might pull out my telephoto or macro (well when I get that lens) and just use that instead.

Yep, I have a love/hate relationship with car shows for that reason. That's where all the best cars are drawn out, but then you also have a lot of distractions. But at the same time, it's the easiest place to set up shoots. Like you though, I found it's nice to concentrate on detail shots more. Or maybe it's just easier. Either way, often I would bring a fast lens and take as many or more detail shots than wide angle shots. Just too many people walking around. I hate waiting like 5 minutes with the camera at my eye for people to get out of the shot.

Oh yeah, I don't mean that I should have priority or anything. I'm not even annoyed by them, simply by the setting. I mean, if they weren't there, I don't think the cars would be. On occasion I like to include them too, especially when they're leaned over looking into the interior or engine bay.

Oh yeah, I think a have a few shots of people looking into the engine bay as well.

I also like using my ultra wide angle when there is a group of people gathered around a car. I get down low, love being on the same level as the car instead of people height.

I've came across some photographers who get pissy when there is people looking at a car when they are trying to take a photo and they ask them to move. Im like, I can't do that. That's just being mean. Most of the times people respect you taking pictures ans they get out of your way for a few seconds. Sometimes they'll apologize if they walk into front of you but I tell them it's okay, no biggie.

Car shows are sort of hit and miss. I prefer shows that are on pavement because I don't like the green from the grass reflected on the cars and pavement is a more natural environment for cars.

I hate when people get pissy too. The one time I remember getting like actually annoyed was for this shot:

That thing rolled up, and naturally that entire car show of about 250 people flocked there. I waited in that spot for like 15-20 minutes, crouched down there. I remember getting annoyed, not verbally but the look on my face probably said enough. I finally had enough, grabbed a shot or two when there was finally enough of a clearing, and then just saying screw it. I didn't get what I wanted, had to crop all weird and the space on the left really bothers me, but I had to get something of that car with that license plate. Afterwards I thought about it and figured out I should have just come back like 10 minutes later.

But for the most part, people are like you described, they move out of your way. Most car owners will go out of their way to help you get the shot too.

Well can you complain?! It's a Ferrari F40! I'm not sure if I would even be able to take pictures because I'd mostly likely be standing there drooling instead. Haha

I hate to point it out, but that isn't a Cadillac it's a Chevrolet. Not sure of the year but the Chevy "Bowtie" on the front is a clue as to the manufacturer.
