Old flash new camera.

I got a Canon T 6 for Christmas, I was told by a fellow photographer that my old Vivitar flash my not be compatible with the multiple posts on the flash shoe.

Does anyone know if this is true?

It probably won't do TTL flash adjustment, but it will probably fire in manual mode.

Yikes! Don't try that! Your old Vivitar flash could also fry the T6 electronics. One test may be all it takes to find out. Old flash equipment like that had higher trigger voltages. Get modern flash equipment certified to work with your T6.

Can using an old flash damage a new DSLR?

The Canon DSLR can take a higher flash sync voltage. At least my old XTi, 40D and 7D works with the Vivitar 283 flashes I have.
Of course, if you do not want to take the chance, you can get the Wein Safe Sync
WeinSafe-Sync Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe with PC!

Spend a few bucks and get a Yongnuo or Godox for Canon. It isn't worth taking a chance and if your spending $41 bucks on a safe-sync you might as well add a few more and get a modern full function flash.
