First off, I've only had my camera since Friday, but I really am loving learning about things. It's my first DSLR, after my poor beloved Canon SX120 got dropped on the ceramic tile. This is our beagle, Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla. After I got this shot, he decided that me with a camera was the most terrifying thing in the world and would not come anywhere near me.

Really nice looking model. Too bad it may be a short career.
Enjoy that new camera.

TBH, there is not too much C&C that can be offered. Ths is a nice snapshot of your pet, nothing wrong with that, but a snapshot all the same.

A couple of things I see that may be worth considering the next time out with the pooch.

You need to get control of the dog and let the handler on the left relax with the lead. Removed all together, even better.

Read up on the RoT, (rule of thirds). This will decidedly help in your framing and compositioning.

Cropping at or near joints is usually frowned upon for a reason. It looks sucky.

The image looks slightly underexposed. Depending on your editing software, try to bring up the Fill Light slider.

What I like: The curious expression and the nice sharp eyes.

What I don't like: The angle. The composition.

What I would do: First of all, try not to look down on dogs and kids. Get down to you subject's eye level or even lower. I would have shot this photo in portrait orientation. That way you wouldn't chop off the dog's legs and there wouldn't be so much empty space in the frame.

Welcome to the forum. You will learn a lot here. Now keep shooting and start to bring your new camera to its full potential!
