To be a little philosophical.
Sometimes, when you regard a scene, you get a special feeling. Not necessarily the basic feeling of "reality" as we understands it, but rather a magical sort of feeling that suggests there is more to "reality" than what our eyes see and ears can hear. If you want to induce this feeling in the viewer, who is to say that "over processing" an image is less "real" than a "normally" processed image?
If I look out upon a morning sunrise, and get a feeling of hugeness, inferiorness or something similar, who is to say that this "feeling" is not indeed part of the "reality" I'm living in? We are all individuals, and what is true for some is not necessarily true for others.
To tie these thoughts together: Does the argument against tone mapping that claims it to represent "fakeness" and "a less realistic representation of the world" really hold any water?
edit: love the photo, btw!
