They're certainly much better! Most of them are now nice and sharp and they're composed better as well. The rest are probably scanning issues.
As you correctly suspect - midday sun is generally a bit flat as it's directly above and casts an even above light.
#5 especially is infinitely better than the first series! Good job!

Yep, if you've got photoshop, learn the following in this order:
Levels, Curves, Saturation, Contrast, USM/smart sharpening
and then you can do some cool stuff like selective colouring. If you want some examples, just post one with OTE in the post and a whole load of people can have a go and you can ask for instructions on which one you like best.

Definately much better. Just takes practice. And maybe a little advice form some informed friends.
