I noticed prices of older digital cameras skyrocketing and tried to find out why. Apparently, younger folks have set a trend of using old digital cameras instead of their phones causing prices to go through the roof. Below is an article about it. If you have an old digital camera sitting a a drawer somewhere, you might be shocked at what it will sell for on ebay.

Just another nano-trend...like Dad-cam camcorders. Cover story in last Sunday's NYT magazine.

Most of those high "prices" are "asking" prices not "selling" prices. I know that for a fact as I sell every DLSR body (and film SLRs) I find in the trash here at work on the Bay and keep a close eye on prices.
Thats why when I do list a cam I check "sold" prices and go from there.

Hmmmm maybe I can make some money with my old Sony Mavica.....lol

According to the below article, yeah. Sony Mavica is sought after.
Also Sony Cybershot and Canon Powershot point and shoots. The old DSLRs haven't caught on yet, so far.
During covid I bought a couple of old Canon Powershots for $10-$20. I saw the same model sell for $200 recently. Doesn't make sense to me, but I'll be selling mine soon.

Really depends on finding victims of influencer blather who'd sucker for this. Not long ago, Contax p&s cameras started showing up as fashion accessories. Prices skyrocketed. Now? Virtually no service on a fragile 20+ yr-old camera that didn't age well. That early digital look isn't hard to pull off in post...

The digital cameras I use are all old models, the newest deigned 10 years ago, but I've no interest in using the point & shoot models they are talking about. If I can find the ones I have I could probably sell them for more than the last few cameras I brought. Not too unrealistic as the last 4 cameras totaled £13 (which actually includes an immaculate Helios 44m)
