Hi, I am looking to upgrade from my kit lens 40-150mm, standard with my Oly E-420. Ive been looking at the Oly 50-200mm f2.8 tele, but heard that I may have some issues with the lack of image stabilization on the body at 200mm, also the lens size in comparison to the body. Has anyone used this combination? Can anyone make a reccomendation as to what would be a good upgrade?

I was also looking at the significantly cheaper 70-300mm f4.0 , however am told that this lens can be dissapointing in some aspects.
I like to shoot a bit of wildlife and sport, if it matters

Cheers :)

Partner has a 50-200mm f/2.8 brand new. Haven't used it much but it has fantastic optics.

The complaint about the image stabilisation can be applied to every telephoto lens. Frankly it's a complaint of being spoiled by modern technology in some ways. But then we typically go out and do daytime shooting, and when we're not we take tripods with us, so IS doesn't really come into it. I don't have IS (or VR in my case) in any of my lenses and I don't miss it, others seem to rely heavily on it. So only you can really decide if it will be critical for you.

Also Olympus have vibration reduction in the SENSOR not in the lens. So a future camera upgrade would eliminate this complaint from the lens.

Also also the 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 is nearly 2 stops slower at the long end then the 50-200 and still doesn't have IS so you'd still be in the same place.
