Announced today...

Olympus releases three new cameras to refresh their lineup; E-P3 (high end), E-PL3 (low end), and E-PM1 (smallest and lightest).

Olympus PEN Lite and PEN Mini announced and previewed: Digital Photography Review
Olympus PEN E-P3 announced and previewed: Digital Photography Review

Even more important to the mu-43 consortium is the releasing some interesting primes:

Olympus 45mm f/1.8 (90mm equiv)
Olympus 12mm f/2 (24mm equiv)

With the size of the tiny 14mm of mine attached to the E-PM1, I'm starting to think my LX3 is going to feel out of place much less bridge cameras in the marketplace.

I really wouldn't mind one of these. I was looking at the currnet (last?) generation of PENs and have almost bought one several times already. The problem is, I still need accessories for my lights so it keeps getting put on the back burner.

I think it would be fun to show up to a shoot with the big lights and a PEN.

Yeah you can get all sorts of pelican cases and **** for your lights, and then show up with a PEN in a man-purse just for the lulz.

There's a camera club in Japan that is really, really, really excited about these new miniature cameras from Olympus! The ultra-miniature size of the cameras, but especially of the mini-lenses, makes them feel better and more secure about the size of, uh, of their own, uh....."tiny equipment".:sexywink:

I was thinking about doing the same thing with a Canon GXX, but the PEN seems more professional.

I'm excited. Not because any particular specifics of this announcement...

But

Because the growth of the available native lenses from slowish zooms to high speed primes means (at least to me) that their marketing guys found a potential to grow the system to beyond the entry level market.

I would be really interested in one of those new cameras if (and only if) they have significant improvements in the area of contrast AF performance.
