I just found out that we have Bald Eagles in the area!! I had heard rumors of it but found out today where they hang out! It's not far from the cottage... which is not far from home ...

Glad for you, these are such amazing birds.
The only one I ever saw while I was living in Canada was the day I moved to the USA.
Talk about a symbol!
I guess we will see pictures soon...

Thanks MiFleur! I have never seen one, that is an awesome symbol for your move, how neat :)

The picture I found of one was shot a couple days ago so a drive may be in order this weekend. Not sure how much I will get with my 18-200 but we shall see!

Hey those are OUR birds.

Haha, share?

We already gave you Loons. Don't be greedy.

Hey, we take good care of the Loons! Even named our dollar after them (probably the WORST choice in currency naming EVER lol)

See and you expect us to let you have our birds? You'd probably change the name to Barry the Baldy Birdy and put it on a $3 coin.

Bald eagles are pretty common where they have access to fish and places to nest. They don't get on well with people so they won't hang out at the beach with the kids munching on corn dogs but out in cottage country you'll have a good chance to spot them.

I've seen them in practically every part of the country, anywhere there is fish and tranquility.

Golden eagles are also present in many parts of Canada but not as common the bald eagle. They are a fair size bigger and will hunt small animals.

Please no facts allowed. They slow down a good thread.

No worries, naming convention dictates that the $3 coin would be called a threenie :biglaugh:

Thanks Patrice! I did some research a while back and the Bald Eagles were in recent years upgraded from endangered to special concern in our area. I knew they migrated through here, we are on a major migratory track but there had only been few reports of them living in the area. Now I'm going to have to look into the Golden Eagles!
