On the dark side....

Every now and then I like to wander over to the dark side. Lighting was from a off camera 550 w/sb. Editing was from one of the retouchers I work with.

This looks really scary and awesome. I love the darkness around the girl and her doll. Nice having the lamp light on for the scary effect. GREAT JOB!

Ewick: Yes, I know how to edit. I edit all my own day to day work. Seniors, families, bla bla bla... but for something like this and those other girls I posted, I let others play. I have like 3 on the other side of the globe edit my work. I run a photography studio for a living.

Just another take on the shot.

Nice work, both the setup and shoot, as well as the editing! Really creates a mood, especially with all the props being period-appropriate, and not mixed old with new which would tend to throw off the viewer's suspension of belief in the composition as a whole.

The idea and the editing are great, but I feel like the composition is a little off. It's good... I just feel like with some tweaks you would have NAILED it.

The girl could be moved to the left and facing the other way, as one possibility... or perhaps just move her a bit left or right. (I do like how the lamp is behind her, but her positioning in the frame feels weird with her not moving but looking like she's headed out of the frame to the left.) The lamp is also cut off in a weird way, but not cut off enough, so it feels like an oversight. Her toe feels a bit tight, like it just needs a little more room to keep from being a distraction, etc.

Basically what I get from this composition is that you have a lot of good elements in it, but I feel like you didn't seriously and carefully consider each one and how they fit together. The composition feels planned, but not crafted.

I'm not sure if I'm making any sense to you.

BTW, for the record, I still think the shot is very cool. I'm only commenting because I felt like it could be that much better.

For the second shot, if you are going for creepy, I might center the little girl w/ her back towards us. The idea of her looking at a blank wall is unnerving. Also would try to get the doll facing you, so we could see it's face. I know this is my vision and might not be the same as yours, but I felt like sharing.

Thanks folks for your interpretation of the shot. In the 2nd shot, I had her looking at the picture on the wall, and the doll's face is facing toward the camera.

It was fun, and believe it or not, the mom was goo goo over them.

Go figure.

OK I mean don't get me wrong....the photos and the PP is awesome. I love this photo but like I said... I was just wondering. Keep posting as I really liked the photos.
