That looks like the baby of the one I encountered on the Peace River in January. Course when your sitting in a Kayak, and drift around a boulder to come eye to eye with them up close and personal, I think it has an effect on your perspective. Every gory scene from the movie "Lake Placid" rushed through my brain in split second. The locals claimed he was 14', but I had no intention of checking to be sure. I was just glad the current was strong enough to pull me on by, because I was to scared to paddle on my own. Beautiful stretch of river to float, but all told we saw 18 gators that day, thankfully most were a lot smaller.

I visit Florida every year, they got the Gators

Lovely shot. I can get quite facinated with reptiles, though big crocs and gators make me a little nervous. I remember one time I was in Oz and went fishing early one morning. To get to the beach had to cross a small burn (aka stream) before going over the sand dues to the beach and there was a 6ft salt water croc in it. Still got a few fish but I never really settled knowing that something that could quite easily eat me was between me and safety.

This one was about a 14 footer. A good chunk of his tail is underwater. He sat on that log as we passed in a boat only 2 feet longer than himself...I think he knew he had the upper hand should we get silly. Still, he always had one eye on us for the whole time we were shooting and it's a very discerning look at that.

Were you in a boat with sides or a flimsy Kayak barely above water?? Your perspective on this thing brings back more than "discerning looks"! My hats off to you for coolness under fire. There's a big difference seeing one of these big boys in an enclosure with a fence protecting you, and being in their environment getting sized up for dinner.

Great shot.
His look to me is should I have him with Red or white wine this evening.

Hard sided boat with enough motor to get the hay out of Dodge should he choose the red wine, with white meat :-)
