New to all this, got a d40 and this is one of my first pics....i was quite pleased with it !

That is indeed a very nice shot. You got the focus on the petals really well, but I find the blurred blades of grass in the foreground somewhat distracting. Keep shooting! I have a D40 and love it to death!
