Now, I am not a squeamish woman by any means, but it gave me the quivers when I reached down in my freshly washed towels and found a squishy, cold little body in the bowels of the washing machine tub. I unceremoniously flung it down on the wet towels waiting to be put in the dryer.
This poor little Western Fence lizard went through a complete wash cycle, thankfully in cold water and no bleach! I thought surely he was dead but his little sides heaved a bit with a breath, and he looked at me and blinked, so I put him in a container and brought him into the house.
With a full belly (yumm-m, housefly) and some warmth, he looks like he is going to make it. Imagine you trying to survive through a similar ordeal!
Maybe not the greatest picture, but a noteworthy story, and he's one clean critter!
