Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I've been using photobucket for online image hosting, but I'm getting sick of it. Its slow, its full of adds, I've gotten 2 virus attacks from it, I just don't want to use it anymore.

Has anyone run the gamut of various online hosting services and picked out "the best"?

I'm looking for something free. I'm not looking for image storage or archiving, I already lease space for that. Image quality isn't a huge issue for me, I'm just using it for sharing images on the web, most for use in web forums. Just looking for something that makes uploading and sharing pictures online easy, without a ton of overhead. I also want a service that lets me upload via cellphone.

The only other site I am remotely familar with is Flickr.

I just don't want to go through the hassle of starting a new account and moving my pictures over only to find out that the new site is just as bad as photobucket.

Flickr, Photobucket & Smugmug seem to be the most popular.

I just use a folder on my website. I upload the photos there and then use the URL to post the photos into forums or my blog etc.

I do keep all of my images on my website, the drawback there though is the file size. I would have to resize my images as most of the forums either don't resize images or have a maximum resolution. Photobucket is nice because it automatically resizes the image on upload. The other draw back is the inablity to upload from my cell phone.

Though, now that I think about it... I'm sure I can find an open source photo album I could install on my site to use for that purpose.

Imageshack used to be perfect... until it started lagging like my Windows 95 pc. I'm guessing it's so good everybody is using it. But you should try it some time later... it's better compared to Photobucket because it's less annoying and your picture never expires...

I use both photobucket and flickr.

flickr has a lot more options for sharing photos than photobucket.

I just recently payed for flickr pro to remove the upload limits and i am making a switch to that for anything i want to share more publicly

I only upload the size that I need. In other words, I set the size to about 800 pixels wide and set the JPEG compression to 60-70%. The file sizes are relatively tiny.

Dosen't that require you to manually resize it before uploading? With photobucket, I just upload the image and photobucket handles all of that.

Yes, but it's pretty much an automatic function with Lightroom. Probably takes less time than trying to upload a bunch of large image files.
