I spent a few days visiting a friend in Oregon this past week. It was my first visit to the northwest and I have to admit that you guys that live there have some amazing scenery. I never realized how rocky and rough that coastline was until I saw it.

These are from Cannon Beach (good thing the name has a double "n" in it or I might have had to hide my Nikon) early on a cold, rainy, gloomy Monday morning. The first two are looking north toward Haystack Rock and the third looking south.

Lovely photos. IMHO, the Oregon coast is the most diverse coastline in a short distance that I've ever experienced. Rocky, foggy, fallen trees, pines to the shoreline. Or large cliffs. Of long flats of sand with tidal pools. The Haystacks. Huge sand dunes. Over the space of less than 100 miles you get about 5-6 totally different beach experiences.

This is from one summer going up and down the Oregon Coast. Amazing light that particular sunset and the lone surfer coming in with the reflections in the tidal pools just made it magical.

Not sure if you've been to Ecola park which is 15 min north of Cannon beach. For me, it's the most beautiful place in north Oregon coast

It really is gorgeous. We went north from Cannon Beach so I don't know what is to the south. I do know I'm going to try and get back again later in the year. It started raining Sunday afternoon when we got there and except for an hour or so after dawn Monday didn't quit all day. Still a great place to visit.

We did stop there for a little while. I have a couple of shots from there as well but haven't gotten to them. Lovely spot but not something that can be absorbed in a few minutes.

Ecola is lovely on a bunch of levels. There's a lot of cool stuff south of Cannon Beach. If you can make it to the Oregon Coast during the summer (say...August) you'll get a great sense of the diversity...photos like the ones you posted (where it's gray and looking wet, some fog and mist) and then some clear skies with color and others with lots of clouds. And of course the shorelines are diverse. Love the place.

Also, just in case you make it back to Cannon Beach, when I was there a couple of years ago, there was a glass blower who allowed people to come in and watch him work/shoot him as he produced his art. Lovely stuff.

No doubt Scott. I only had a chance to visit Portland and Medford. Oregon also has wonderful people (great seafood and micro brews in Portland).

I wish I coulda woulda taken a ride up the coast back in my bike days. Maybe a bucket list item.

Glad you enjoyed!

Those were my film days. I went back once with a Nikon D100 and took this, among others. I don't post images in forums so if you want to look, look. If not, don't.

I'm hoping to go back later this year. My hostess said much the same thing, that we had to go back during the summer because it is so different. I'm already looking forward to it. It's a beautiful area when it's cold and misty but I'd really love to see it with the sun shining ;)

Nice stuff, Scott! Looks like you had a good time!
It was a great time. The weather didn't help but from what I saw it wasn't that great around here either. Much windier there though, it was gusting 40mph on Tuesday.

I did enjoy it, it was great. It would be a fun trip on a bike, no question of that. I have ridden along Highway 1 in California but only as far north as San Simeon to visit the Hearst Castle. The micro brews were great but we never did find any good seafood.

Beautiful shot of a beautiful place. This was my first visit to the northwest but hopefully it won't be the last. It's a beautiful place and I'd love to explore it some more.
