Spotted the first of many groundhogs living on the property today.

Not sure where your focus is here. In the first one it seems to be on the grass in front of the subject, and in the second maybe the side of the groundhog or the square mesh on the side. Might want to check which focus setting you're using, cameras can be confused if there are too many focus points in the shot. Maybe try switching to a single spot in the middle. Conventional wisdom is to focus on your subject's eye.
