What does TPF think about the contrast in this shot though? Too much, not enough? I tend to lean towards more contrasty images (sort of my taste/style I suppose).

it's not a bad pic at all. It just looks more like an edited snapshot. I wish he's been looking at the camera, it would have given it more of a portrait feel. I really do like the pic though

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm a big fan of more candid portraits...I guess that isn't really defined as a portrait, but I guess it's just my style. But technically speaking, how is it? For me, I like the bright color on his shirt (although it's actually yellow) and the deep black on his sun-glasses. Is there enough black/white contrast? Or does it look more grey-scale? I really enjoy B&W photography, especially film (got my X-700 for that), and want to learn about, and get better at, mono-chromatic work.

It looks more greyscale right now. I would bump the brightness.
