Overlay and resize matching photos

Hello,
I'm beginning a website where I'm taking old historic photos of my hometown and trying to match them to current photos, so people can see the Then and Now of places around town. I've used ARCGIS georeferencing before at work, where I would pick certain reference points of photo's, and the software matches those points, thus stretching and re-sizing similar photo's so they almost perfectly overlay on each other.

Does anyone know of any software programs where something similar to this can be done at home?
