I think if you loose the light you just end up with some colored bars, there would be nothing to focus on, I like it.

"Just some coloured bars" wouldn't be too bad, either, though the photo would be all different then. With the light, you have something to focus on, though, and I like the change of directions and shapes as given through the pole, the roundness of the light and the wooden bench (?). I also like how this circle of light breaks up the otherwise fairly dark blackness of the beach, so you see that it sand "we are standing on".

LaFoto, thanks for the welcome and thanks to all for your comments. I'm not a real serious photographer, but I enjoy the outdoors and finding a great composition(at least in my mind).
