I am going to design a rig that will protect my camera while I shoot paintball. The local paintball photographer is abusive of the contrast adjustment as well as a sleu of other ugly over-processes, and it has motivated me to try to establish myself among the local paintball scene as a photographer. This is more of a technical discussion about the design. Does anyone have any insight? I'm unsure of what lens I would build it around, I'm thinking a 70-300 simply because it is very flexible. What I have in mind is some sort of plexiglass housing that would take the camera out of immediate danger while on the paintball field. My primary concern would be a paintball hitting the front element of the lens and cracking it, so a UV filter would be used. I have also thought about mounting a piece of plexiglass in front of the lens and accepting the reduced IQ in return for safety. I'm open to all ideas at this point.
