I would not say it is stronger. It is different.
The longer creek in shot 1 creates a different view, which I rather like.
The tighter shot 2, has more emphasis on the trees and reflection.

So as the old saying "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder," so it is with how an image looks.

Peeb, I like the color and contrast in the first shot, but the over all composition of the second shot. If you could adjust the contrast without losing the foggy hazy look of the second shot I think it would hit the sweet spot for me. Really like the cloud reflections in the second shot.
